Wireless DECT headsets

Wireless DECT headsets are incredibly popular both in the workplace and home offering people the opportunity to move around their workplace or home, no longer restricted to one spot. They utilise DECT technology, the same technology you see in cordless phones and it is this technology that gives them their wireless capabilities. DECT technology boasts many advantages to analogue, such as less interference and less crackle which equals much clearer calls and security against eavesdropping.

Wireless DECT headset usually come in two parts, the headset itself and the base station or ‘radio fixed part’.  The base station plugs into an existing corded phone and this then acts as the wireless transmitter to the headset allowing you to make and take calls through the paired wireless headset rather than the traditional handset. The base unit connects to the mains and also acts as a charger for the headset. As with most rechargeable devices it is recommended to let the headset run down and keep it off the charger until the end of the day and you will get better battery consumption.

Another variant of the wireless DECT headset is one that pairs to an existing DECT cordless phone system rather than attaching directly to a corded phone. DECT cordless phones usually allow anything up to 6 handsets to be paired to their base unit and this type of wireless DECT headset works by being paired to the phones base unit as an additional handset. Calls can then be answered and ended directly through the headset but outbound calls must still be made through the handset and then transferred to the headset which can sometimes prove to be quite tricky. You must check before hand whether the DECT wireless headset is for use on a corded phone or a DECT cordless phone as they are device specific.

There are many different styles of wireless DECT headset out there allowing for a more personal approach when choosing one. The main styles are headband (over the head) and over the ear. You can then narrow it down more by choosing between a single ear (monaural) or double ear (binaural) headset (headband style only). You can also choose the microphone type from the standard voice tube to the upgraded noise cancelling microphone which is particularly useful in noisy environments.

Features and functionality tend to differ between models with each offering a different set to suit use in a slightly different setting.  The current generation of wireless DECT headsets offers a number of innovative and cutting edge features and functions, with the major manufacturers like Plantronics GN Netcom and Sennheiser at the forefront and often setting the standard, developing their own technologies. So although choosing a wireless DECT headset may initially be somewhat confusing you can guarantee you’ll

Although choosing a wireless DECT headset may initially seem somewhat confusing, once you’ve got the hang of the headset ‘lingo’ often used by the headset companies you’ll find a plethora of choice. As technology costs fall so do product prices and with wireless DECT headsets more affordable they are no longer thought of as a luxury but more as the essential business tool they are.

Mobile phone headsets for women

Having been around for several years now, the mobile phone using public have become accustomed to being able to talk hands-free using Bluetooth headsets. Bluetooth’s popularity has steadily been increasing as more and more mobile phones now come fully equipped with Bluetooth capabilities. Wireless headsets have literally freed the hands of non-stop, always-on-the-go business professionals as well as drivers and any other telephone users. It was not until a few years ago, however, that Bluetooth companies realised the potential of the female headset market.

For the gender that is, traditionally, not nearly as inspired by gadgets and gizmos as their male counterparts, headsets were not as popular and headsets were rarely designed with women in mind. Headsets were often bulky and unstylish making them inconvenient and a little embarrassing to wear. A broad range of headsets aimed specifically at women has recently been blown wide open, however, hoping to cater to the desires and needs of the female sex. Several companies which develop headsets such as Motorola, Sony Ericsson and BluePearls wanted to rectify the problem that many women saw headsets as ugly and inconvenient. They conducted extensive research, calling on experts in several fields to inform them of exactly what women want and need. At the top of this list of benefits required of a headset that would be desirable to women came style, comfort and convenience.

The visual-appeal of headsets was probably the first factor that was tackled by the headset industry who aimed to manufacture pretty and petite products. The Pama 7008 became available in Pink Diamante and Silver Diamante versions which claimed to be the ideal fashion accessory for women. Similarly, BluePearls developed the sleek and slender BP7G headsets weighing just 7.9 grams and coming with the option of changeable face plates with different patterns and colours from pearl silver to zebra. These interchangeable designs can be swapped quickly and simply to match the outfit or mood of the wearer. The earpiece was fitted with a mouldable frame to ensure a comfortable fit for any ear. The idea behind creating hands free kits that were as small as possible was both for fashion reasons and to ensure that the headset could be easily stored in a small handbag. This notion has been since developed by Sony Ericsson’s HBH-PV712 Style Edition which comes with a novel necklace to carry the ear piece and an attractive pouch big enough to carry the phone and headset. Furthermore, this headset-for-women concentrated on what women want from their phones and this headset has high talk-time capabilities of 15 hours and particularly user-friendly controls.

Bluetooth gadgets created with women in mind have grown in popularity as attention to detail has increased. Motorola’s glossy, lightweight and fashionable H680 Silver Razr2, for example, is actually designed with the specific dimensions of female skull shapes in mind. Headsets for women are very sleek and can be worn with no fear of ruffling a meticulously arranged hairstyle or clashing with a well-planned fashion look. Female headsets have been created with numerous benefits for females and the designs can considerably help the fashion-conscious and busy woman in today’s society.
